Kunsthistorikerinnen im 20. Jahrhundert

Institutionen, Strukturen, Handlungsräume

The book highlights why it was much more difficult for female art historians to gain visibility and advance their careers. The texts collected in this volume not only reveal misogynistic mechanisms of exclusion, but also the many ways in which female art historians have had a decisive influence on art research. We developed a design concept for the publication that is based on the publication Kunsthistorikerinnen 1910–1980 (Women Art Historians 1910–1980).

This book, edited by K. Lee Chichester, Brigitte Sölch, and Jo Ziebritzki, reveals how decisively female art historians have shaped the field from its beginnings to the present day. The authors analyze the structures and conditions under which female art historians studied, worked, formed networks, and passed on their knowledge. The publication is available from Reimer Verlag.
