Unfurl: A lucid Science-Fiction

The sci-fi opera “Unfurl” by Emma Howes and Justin Kennedy deals with an apocalyptic future, combining beatboxing and trance rave. It was performed on the occasion of the Berlin Biennale in October 2020 at Gropius Bau.

We have designed a score for Unfurl in which a complex system of interrelated footnotes is interwoven with other materials such as drawings, text fragments and photos. The booklet, based on a classical score, adds another layer to the opera. The publication was part of the performance at the Gropius Bau.
